What's great about Marewa?
Marewa School has a great deal to offer. These principles are an important part of ensuring we meet the needs of 21st century learners.
Class sizes
In order to cater for individual learning needs, the classes at Marewa School are kept as small as our roll allows.
Healthy School Lunches Orogramme: Ka Ora, Ka Ako
Healthy school lunches programme: Every day students are delivered a healthy lunch to their classroom as part of the Healthy school lunches programme.. A range of items are served and it has been great to see new fruits and vegetables being enjoyed.
Numeracy and Literacy
These areas are the foundation areas and are taught in a sequenced and ordered way. There are learning coaches (teacher aides) in all rooms in the morning which allows us to maximise learning time. We are fortunate to have a well stocked library that the students are able to borrow books from. Every class has a library time and it is also open during lunchtimes.
Strong Support Programmes
We have a range of support programmes in place funded by the Board of Trustees. This is often based on literacy so that your child can make the progress they need to.
Culture
Celebrating who we are and learning about each other is part of our curriculum. All students do kapa haka and have the opportunity to be part of our awesome Siva Samoa group. We also have the opportunity to learn to play the drums/guitar and join our school rock band.
Sport
Each term there offer a massive range of codes to opt into. Cricket, volleyball, netball, basketball, tag rugby, tackle rugby, football, ki o rahi are all on offer at some point during the year. We encourage whānau to get involved with the coaching side of things.
Enviro School
An important part of Marewa School is our Enviro schools accreditation. Each class has a raised garden bed to look after and we have a range of fruit trees which are nearly ready to produce. On top of this we have our school hens which lay free range eggs for purchase through the office.
Personal Excellence
At Marewa School, we strive for excellence in both our behaviour and work habits. The children are encouraged to do their best, be their best and share their best.
Te Reo
Each class receives 3 hours of Te Reo instruction time a week. The senior Kapa Haka group attend the Ngati Kahungunu festival late in Term 4. In addition to this we are moving towards opening a bilingual space in 2026.
Well Resourced
All Y3-6 students have access to 1-1 devices. In the senior school this is usually a chrome book and in the middle school an ipad. There are smaller numbers of devices on offer for the junior.
Duffy Books in Homes
Our school is part of the Books in Homes Programme. The scheme aims to promote reading in the homes of our pupils.
Transition Class
In order for our students to get the best possible start to their schooling, we have programmes put in place to help them with this transition. We encourage school visits on Wednesdays mornings but these can be arranged at any time.
Community Connections
We firmly believe in working in partnership with parents. This might be at formal times such as interviews but throughout the year as well with a wide range of opportunities available. Keep an eye out for invitations to attend events from your child's class teacher. We pride ourselves on being whanau focussed and we love having families involved in a range of ways. Our family fun night and Matariki/Samoan celebration days are great opportunities to get involved.
We have an active whanau school supporters group who help fundraise and run events for our community. Please enquire at the office for contact details.
